Trace Heritage and Restoration completed specialist repairs to the external gable at The Horse and Groom in Guildford, including timber frame repair, historic window joinery, brickwork reinstatement and traditional joint sealing.
The external gable required sensitive intervention to repair damaged timber and reinstate associated masonry. The historic window joinery also needed repair, requiring care to retain as much existing fabric as possible.
Joint sealing was another key consideration, with traditional materials needed to maintain the performance and character of the building.
Trace repaired the external timber frame and restored historic window joinery using sympathetic repair methods. Brickwork was reinstated and rebuilt using lime mortar, allowing the façade to remain compatible with traditional construction.
Oakum and putty joint sealing was used to complete the repair detailing in keeping with the historic fabric.
The works combined timber frame repair, joinery conservation, masonry reinstatement and traditional sealing techniques. This allowed the gable to be repaired without losing its period character.
The Horse and Groom’s external gable was repaired and reinstated with a focus on long-term performance, traditional materials and heritage detailing.
Trace Heritage and Restoration carried out extensive timber roof structure repairs at Ashton Old Baths, including historic truss repair, splice and resin combination repairs, metal plate reinforcement and new timber construction.
